Or so the ditty went in the school playground when we were talking about how we’d feel being fat in our wedding dresses… It’s a little girls dream isn’t it, getting married, having the gorgeous dress, marrying prince charming and being a princess for the day…
So when we get older and we realise our wedding day isn’t going to be a perfect fairytale without a lot of hard work and planning, a lot of saving and arranging seating plans to keep the family and the families family and friends and distant relatives who you see at only funerals and christenings happy… Wow I’m tired just writing this list out of things to do…
On the top of the list for many women though is the dress… and how she will look in it… I know that when I get married I want to be in the best shape of my life… and I know a lot of people say that if you can’t get in shape for your own wedding day, you likely never will…
We’ve had quite a few brides to be come to us to get in shape for their big day, one most recent bought a dress 4 sizes too small and had to have 5 inches taken in… She was so frightened of losing any more as she was told they couldn’t adjust it any further that she actually didn’t turn up to the 2 weeks prior to her wedding… just in case…
But this… This is the story of little Miss Grayson…
Ross has known Susan for years as he was friends and even flat mates once upon a time with her brother.
When Ross first started his coaching journey, his first venture was a boot camp on a field in Houghton le Spring… Susan was one of the 1st to join as it was literally a stone throw away from her house… it really was a no brainer. I’ve got my suspicions knowing Susan for a while now myself that she also had it in the back of her head that she knew him and could easily get away with the cheek she dishes out during training.
Within those initial 4 months of training with Ross, Susan got some great results, leaner, fitter and a new outlook on health and fitness…
Then…Like most people out there… She would fall completely off the wagon from time to time, go backwards in her results, get frustrated with herself and also the training… but she’d keep on going as the results were important to her…
Once the winter set in she joined our Warrior Women program in our small PT studio and furthered her physique by getting stronger and more toned in places she never thought she would… This is where I first encountered my little potty mouthed friend… I swear a lot but I’ve literally never heard so many F bombs dropped in a single session… I loved it! It was part and parcel of Warrior Women and Susan was right at the heart of it.
Alongside the Warrior program she was also kicking the shit out of the Thai pads, if you know her you know she’s a feisty one so think I the pad work definitely helped her release some pent up anger and release some stress!!!
We opened the gym and put her on her own program and she still was kicking ass but like most the spark was starting to go… when you’ve been on such a long journey of ups and downs, results and set backs… when you’re on and off the wagon and training with a team, when left to your own devices it’s easy to lose a bit of heart…
A year and a half later we got a text saying she wanted back in, she’d gone off the rails, had joined Bannatynes and turned up once in about 6 months…
Bosh the journey started…
Around a month in she rocked up wearing a rock and announced she was engaged… a week later the wedding was booked, the dress was bought, absolutely everything was sorted… I literally don’t know how in the space of around a fortnight she got it all planned and sorted out, but I guess this is testament to how when she puts her mind to it… she gets what she wants…
Susan has been grinding it for the last 6 month 4 times per week back in with the Warrior Women and it’s the strongest, leanest and fittest she has ever looked just in time for the big day!!! She is sub 20% body fat for the first time and is feeling awesome!!!
I’m not going to sit here and say she’s had the perfect diet (she’ll admit herself she hasn’t and also bearing in mind she’s had about 5 hen-do’s), she also hasn’t been to every single session, BUT she’s done the right amount of everything in the time frame we’ve had together, she’s worked hard throughout the sessions and brought the Suzie G Spark back… If she had been strict all of the time and put pressure on herself, chances are she would have hit a wall and gone through that cycle she did with the boot camps…
She’s been an absolute pleasure to coach and whilst we can’t be there as we’re hitting our holidays, we know that she will make a beautiful bride… I’m looking forward to the gun show pics in her wedding dress!!!
