Yeah you read it right… Food snob, food nob… Either way really… DON’T BE ONE!!!
The thing about nutrition is that what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for someone else… Not just “work” in the sense of getting results, I’m talking work as in getting results but still enjoying food and life along with it…
I’m not saying I condone diets where you starve yourself neither, you will regularly hear me saying that low calorie diets are ridiculous, that’s because they are… The body needs fuel to survive, that’s just common sense and not what I’m talking about here.
What I’m talking about here is the massive culture we seem to have whereby when we are “on it” we feel it necessary and even fair to judge others… This is just plain ludicrous and grips my shit…
So first off we have the chicken and veg crew… These people eat chicken and veg all day every day and to be fair they do it for a reason and nine times out of ten unless they’re having binge weekends they look awesome for it!! I don’t have an issue with these people, each to their own… But when they have the audacity to speak out as though that’s the only way to get results or they look down at those who have anything but chicken and rice… That’s when I’ve got a problem…
Then you’ve got the Facebook Wankers who post about not having ate a bar of chocolate for 4 weeks… Who gives a shit… Seriously? The only person who’s ego you’re massaging here is your own because you have “willpower”… So fuck… That’s not to say someone else who’s eating a bar of chocolate every week doesn’t look good too, isn’t getting results or feeling awesome in themselves… Jokes on you cos them snickers bars are EPIC!
You’ve got the fad jumpers… You’ll find these on Facebook and Instagram too… Check out this nob of butter in my coffee, check out my smoothie, I’m on the clean9 detox… Oh you haven’t tried it yet… What are you an idiot? Don’t you know this particular brand of shakes can cure skin disease and cancer, not like that fruit and veg stuff… BOOOORING… Sure if you strongly believe in it, share it, but don’t use it as some self satisfying pedestal to stand upon whilst you look down your nose at everyone else…
Then… Sigh… Then… From personal experience… I’ve got the sugar police… The carb haters… It’s taken me a couple of year to figure out what works for me and my body, admittedly I have an awesome tolerance for carbs, but I can get away with having less protein, more carbs and fats, and I keep making progress… I know what to do to get to a position where I’m happy… I am happy with my body (the legs could be a bit better but that’s not diet related it’s the fact I bench more than I do anything else)… I know that to get “fitness model lean” I’d have to taper back my carbs and cut out the foods I love and that’s something I’m not willing to do…
I have to eat 2500 kcals a day just to maintain my current weight, I don’t like veg and I like carbs… I like what I like and if I insist on trying to do things “clean” I eat nowhere near enough, my weight drops off me and I look ill… I feel unwell… It’s just not worth it… I won’t get some sort of badge of honour by doing it “clean”… We’ve already established there is no such clean or dirty foods it’s just high calorie, low calorie… I literally eat what makes me happy and keeps me satisfied and don’t stress about it… It works for me… The only thing that stresses me out is when I can physically see the confusion and sometimes “ugh” when I suggest someone be a little more lenient on themselves when making food choices, when I tell them to take a more balanced approach… When I tell them taking out all the foods they love or enjoy will only serve to make them miserable and not get them to their goals any faster…
I’d rather have a biscuit a day and look like I do, than be miserable and look no better…
So my point… Take the time to go through the process, follow the advice you’re given and stick it out for periods of time… When you find what works for you, stick with it and sod what anyone else says… When you do find what works for you, don’t see this as some sort of green light to be a judgemental twat to anyone else on the journey…
Each to their own…
