Have any of you heard the expression keeping up with the Joneses…?? Not entirely sure the ‘es’ needs to be in the end but that’s how I’ve always heard it…
The principal is that you’re always trying to out do or go one better than the folks next door… They paint their door, you paint yours, they get new double glazing, you get some… They get a Jag, you come back with a banging Bugatti… Brrrraaaaappp!!!!
What generally happens in this scenario is that you can potentially land yourself in a heap of financial trouble and find that you’re never happy with what you have…
So what’s my point?
How many of you judge your results or your feelings towards yourself based on someone else…
the results of Mary down the street? She lost 6lbs in 2 weeks so that means you must lose 10!! Or perhaps you’re an Instagram fan and unless you’re getting closer to having the body of a fitness model then you must be ugly or fat!!! If you don’t have THAT make up look then none of the lads are gonna fancy you…
I’d like to share something with you… I’ve been there, scrolling through the insta chicks thinking I have got to get that ass!!! So I’m hoping you’ll listen when I tell you that the only person you should be bothered about, the only person who you should compare yourself to or compete with is yourself…
As you may have gathered I feel a bit angry about how we as women feel the need to compete with unrealistic and idiolistic goals strewn across the media left right and centre… It’s bollocks… The only person you should care about is yourself, you should be happy with how you look and how you feel, if you’re looking at these pictures wishing you were someone else then stop… Just stop…
Fuck these ideologies and bullshit filtered pics and these magazines telling you how to get Lucy whatever her name is Arse by doing exactly what she has done… Newsflash, she’s minted and probably has at least a couple of hours a day in with a personal trainer… It’s not just 10 minutes of bums and tums and the diet of a rabbit like the magazines would have you believe. Do you think all of her pics have been taken after filming TOWIE when she’s been living it large in Essex… Doubt it…
We have to get this right… You have to decide what you want and then aim for that… Don’t set yourself up for something that’s unrealistic… That’s how your head gets messed up, you get demotivated and “fall off the wagon”, that’s what makes you cry into your tub of Ben and Jerrys on a night because you’re not “perfect” … Perfection is a filter application to anyone… Be yourself and aim to be the best version of yourself… That’s all…
