Why Do We Put On Weight On Holidays…

So after our recent holiday I only put on 2lbs, which is already gone at the time I’m writing this…

Sarah and I love to get away and when we do we like to relax, adventure and enjoy ourselves to the max…

Not everyone is like me, maybe gaining a few pounds max, or like Sarah who sometimes loses weight whilst on holiday… I’ve actually known people to put on a stone in 7 days whilst on holiday…

We all know why this happens but we seem to do it time and time again…

So I’m going to write it down in black and white… See how many resonate with you… The reasons why we put on so much weight whilst away…

Our activity levels go into what I call “Mong out mode” and we transform into a burned slug-like being… not being able to move apart from to get another drink…

By cutting our activity level in half, or even more, we do not burn as many calories as we normally would.

We eat and drink like starving pigs round a trough, ice cream dripping down our faces and swilling each other with the 10 pints of beer we bring back from the poolside bar every half hour…

If you are the typical Brit in a Spanish resort I know you need to eat the “mega” English breakfast (grease city) every day… you probably only ever have one a week in England, but you’re a proud Brit on holiday and eat the great British breakfast… there’s at least 1500 kcals down the neck to start your day…

Let’s say you are an a average male and your average daily maintenance calories is 2500. You’re not moving much so your daily requirement comes down to 2000, you eat and drink double (that’s me being generous) your usual daily maintenance calories making 5000!

This means that you are in a surplus of 3000 per day!!! If all calories are equal and 3500=1lb of weight, in 1 week alone you’ll put on 5.5lb, in 2 weeks 11lbs

This pretty much works out the same as females

Now then little piggy… is that 11lbs worth it?
