Sarah and I went away for 6 days 2 weeks ago and Sarah’s gran always babysits Mogwai (Sarah’s cat) whilst were gone… She’s a gudden…
We NEVER keep crap in the house, I’m talking crisps, biscuits etc… Well… I say we… I never… Sarah will sneak a pack of biscuits in from time to time when she feels like it…
Even though I have 2 young boys I still don’t keep the cupboards full of ket.
So… When Gran stays she must go out and buy herself her snacks for the week. When we get back we always check out the cupboards to see what she’s left, like last time Sarah got a full Mince Pie, SCORE! She always gets us some milk, bread, eggs, the usual which is awesome as we don’t have to think about anything like that when we get back from travelling, she’s always got it covered. I love this…
So after my dinner on a night this time round…I’ve found myself having a kitkat or some party ring biscuits because they have been left for us, not because I want them… but because gran has left them there… after-all it’d be rude not to right?… I used to be a bit of a fatty years ago and know this was one of my downfalls, eating because it was there, drinking because it was on tap (I worked abroad as a bouncer and got my drinks for free)
Maybe she leaves it because shes always saying Sarah is too skinny (btw Sarah is FIT)…
But… Whatever the reason… and I know it is lovely that she does this for us and I wouldn’t want it any other way… I will be passing some of the blame to her for the extra kcals I am consuming at the minute… Sorry Gran… I have to pass some of the blame somewhere… If you’re reading this you know I love ya, I’ll be making you a lovely Christmas dinner!
Right… So… One of the key things to staying relatively lean all year round for me is to keep the shit out the house… even if you have kids you shouldn’t have a biscuit drawer/tin… you know you’ll keep picking at it if you know it’s there… and your kids always know it’s there and so they opt for biscuits over real food… I’m not saying it’s wrong to have a treat now and then, but if it’s there, you’re going to eat it… simple as…
We have a thing in our family called scone Saturday… that is our treat for the week we buy 4 scones and have one each… some might say I’m harsh with my kids nutrition but I just want them to have good health and not fill them with sugar… not only did we make this mistake on Halloween and have hyperactivity… but I don’t want them to have an unhealthy relationship with food, i want them to understand the difference between foods of nutritional value and treats… I’m not going to go down the route of good food and bad food, just everything in moderation.
See the difference it makes just not having those kind of foods to hand…
